President’s Report:
This year it gave much pleasure to welcome Calder Fly Fishers to the Council.

Attendance at meetings has increased and it is pleasing to see the renewed involvement of many clubs and the effort by delegates to attend meetings whenever possible. Unfortunately the April meeting, Presidents weekend, did not have a quorum and did not go ahead but other meetings during the year have generally had better participation then previous years. For some club delegates distance and travel time makes attending meetings difficult or almost impossible. Recognising this we introduced telephone conferencing for members who find it too difficult to attend in person. Delegates joined the meetings by conference call in March, July and August and all said the experience was different but worthwhile..

I wish to thank Chris Doody for arranging the conference facility and encourage all delegates to take advantage of it when attendance in person is not possible for any meeting.

The Web site still need some work and updating mainly due to my lack of expertise with Wordpress and posting notices and articles in the right areas. Any offers of assistance in will be gratefully accepted.

We also have a CVFFC Facebook page thanks to Anthony McGrath.

In particular I wish to acknowledge the work by Graham Godber in reviewing our Constitution and proposing an amended version. This was an extremely challenging and we are all grateful to Graham for this.

Once again the 4X4 & Fishing show demonstrated that a combined effort produces much better results than an individual one. Yarra Valley expresses appreciation to all clubs that helped with the event and hope each club found it a worthwhile experience. This year the set-up of the casting lane and information and fly tying stand was much better than previous years, the location was ideal, right at the main entry. We attracted much more interest than any other time, especially with kids, thanks to the innovative “marketing” by the guys from Ballarat with casting for “Freddos”. Show organisers were so impressed with our efforts that they immediately booked us in for 2015 show.

Feedback to Yarra Valley is most welcome as improvements can always be made. Use CVFFC meetings and communications to put forward suggestions. The aim is to make this event stand truly representative of all fly fishing clubs across Victoria. Overall we need ideas for promoting fly fishing, improving habitat & access, and encouraging children & teenagers, families and those sections of the community not traditionally involved in recreational fishing to become passionate as we are for fly fishing. Share you club’s initiatives with all the clubs so we can grow the fly fishing fraternity.

Peter Te Hennepe and I represented the Council as delegates to VRFish meetings for the year and I continued as CVFFC representative at The Round Table Forum. I also represented the Council at the Trout Reference Group meetings held at Snobs Creek hatchery.
It is important that we retain these representations as they provide direct avenues for fly fishers to the decision and policy makers that impact on recreational angling.
I encourage all member clubs and delegates to raise your local issues at Council meetings, or at any other time. CVFFC support for projects or funding or direct lobbying through VRFish and Roundtable can lend more weight than clubs acting individually.

Thank you to our Secretary/Treasurer Christopher Collins, City Vice President Mark Thomas and Country Vice President Chris Doody for the assistance and efforts during the past year. Especially, thank you to all delegates who have given their time and effort to attend meetings either in person on by conference call.

Thank you all for attending today.
